The Shape of Things to Come

I finished Matched by Ally Condie this week! I have to say I love futureific stories and the whole concept! It seems like a world so foreign to our own, but really we are only a few short years away. I read THIS article on yahoo today. GO read it really quick! While I think the world that our kids will become adults in is fasinating, I NEVER, EVER want to see the written word or HANDWRITING to fade away! That is one thing from the book that I couldn't stand! Everyone in Condie's world wrote on "tablets" a small portable computer. (Sound strangely familiar?) Except there was ONLY a keyboard. There were no pens. There was no paper. There was no library. There was no CREATION, nothing new. No one knew how to write, or how to do more than their "vocation." (No one crocheted or did a journal or even knew how to do two jobs!!!) A limited world that gave the illusion of offering you everything you ever wanted. Scary. I don't want Autumn to be in that world. After reading that article, it puts technology advancements in a proper prospective. How close are we to a paperless society? How close are we to blogs BEING OUR ONLY journal?! How close are we to the future that people have dreamed up for so long? Technology always scares me like this! We can invent ANYTHING! *sigh*

Please tell me you feel the same way! Or that you think I've completely lost all my marbles. It's just so scary to think that our future will be like that article or even like the world in Matched.

*sigh* END rant. ;) thank you have a nice day! lol.

Christmas so Good.

Merry Christmas Ya'll!!
I really hope everyone had a GREAT day with their families! It was so much fun to be with my brother and his sister today! We had a blast! Ate way too much food! It SNOWED! Can you BELIEVE IT! A WHITE CHRISTMAS. Granted it was tonight when it snowed, but still snow on Christmas in Georgia! It was beautiful!

I can not WAIT to get in to these!! The Hubs got me some "Nerd Fuel" as my cousin Daniel called it. And I think I will here on out refer to my books as nerd fuel! Love it! Hubby even got me TWO sets of Moleskine journals. Now I just need to save up the extra money I get for this
I've really missed my Journaling and getting these journals just gives me a lot of incentive! So, if anyone is feeling generous *wink wink!* I'm sure I'll be in the class though.

I've been using my new camera too! I LOVE IT! I put it to really good use! Here's a preview of whats to come on the blog! Maybe a pattern and tutorial for some adorbable crochet goods?

Ooh, wee. What could it be? Just wait and you will see! Get those crochet hooks ready, cause I am so excited to do my first *ahem*FIRST*ahem* tutorial. ;)

Love you all! I hope your Christmas is lovely and wonderful and filled with Great and Mighty Love.

Life in a Post/Cute Crochet Fox Hat!

This week has been crazy! We have a few get togethers over last weekend and went shopping. Then Monday night Doodle got really sick. Throwing up in her sleep sick! :( It's working its way through the family right now. Robin doesn't feel well and threw up last night. *sigh* I am drinking Ginger Ale and telling myself it's because I've seen so many other people throw up. But I don't feel exactly perfect.

Other than THAT. I've started a new book this week!

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen. I am enjoying it a lot actually. Even though it is a teen book and Sarah Dessen is a teen author, this book seems more grown up. It's because the main character, Auden (which is a cute girl name by the way!) didn't have much of a childhood. She matured too quickly under the intellegence of her parents, who pushed her to succeed rather than have fun. That's a complete different world to me. Lol. Success without fun is pointless!

I made Becky from Strumpets Crumpets two adorable hats! She requested a child and adult size fox hat this year for Christmas. She asked me last year for Christmas too and one of her cousins got a little foxy hat! It wasn't as cute as these if you ask me!! I had a hard time last year with the ears, but this year they were so much easier!

Cute Fox Hat

This is the adult size hat, for Becky.
beckys hat 2
eli's hat

This is the child sized hat.

There isn't that much difference between the two. I made the ears ont he child hat a little more perky, just cause, it's a kid! It's so funny, when I was finishing the hats, Robin and Doodle were watching Milo & Otis and there was that adorbs little fox running all over the place!

So, Do you guys feel like this year was a good one? Have you stuck with any of your resolutions?

I've stuck with one.
Hairs

Growing My Hair for a Year. This time last year was the last time I cut my hair. I got it cut to shoulder length to even it all up. I want to cut my hair now, but at the same time I want to let it grow.

Journals and things

Hey There!
Is everyone keeping cool? I know it's hot as the dickens here and the only thing that seems to cool me off is sitting in front of a fan with my hair in a messy twist. It's been raining here lately, which is making is SUPER, SUPER humid. I'm talking nasty, steamy, humidity. It's completely gross.
But ENOUGH about weather!
Let's talk JOURNALS! ;)
I am enjoying this challenge so much! I like to look at the site in the morning. Then I spend all day thinking about what I plan to do. Normally, I start working on it after dinner and bath-time. These past few days have been a little busy & I'm behind on sharing them! But never the less, here my pages are:
thankful
what are you thankful for?
such a good page for me to do. i am thankful for so much and to put it to pen and paper really helps me stay positive. this is just a list of everything i could think of.
staples
What are your "go to" clothes?
I called them "staples". My stapes are black v-neck shirts, blue jeans, cardigans, flats, comfy skirts and sandals. I want both of these outfits so bad! They came from the old navy website & I am totally in love with both! I actually have the blue jeans and the ballet flats!

Not Quite Normal: The Autobiography of heatherdawn
This is my autobio cover of the book of my life. I used this crazy geometric pattern because it's wild, crazy and fun. Much like me! :) I had fun doing this!!

Book List
Oh, this post has a certain little grip on my heartstrings. A BOOK LIST! YAY! These are my most favoritest books EVA! I would like to take a minute to say that reading is a HUGE passion of mine. I love to devour books. These are the books that I couldn't put down. Books that I thought about after reading them. Books that have stuck with me over a long period of time. (Like Speak. Read it in middle school. I've read it at least 10 times.) #2 is special to me because it was a book my Granny begged me to read. It was a beautiful book & it makes me think of her when I see it. #10 is the book I'm reading now! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It's making me understand the Bible a lot more, even though it is a work of fiction.

So, there are my journal entries for the past few days. I actually love showing you my journal. It's kind of like bearing my soul to you, so I hope you like it too!

But guys, did you know... IT'S AUGUST! AUTUMN IS AROUND THE CORNER! I am so excited for mulled cider, halloween candy, long sleeves, jackets, riding with the windows down and the heat turned on, sitting on the porch to enjoy a hot cup of earl grey, the smell of fall burning, the colors in the trees and the leaves as they fall. :) it makes me giddy.
AND I am excited for crochet-ey goodness! :D

I hope everyone stays cool & holds on a little bit longer, because cold weather will be here SOON!
G'night!

wasssssup?!

ok, listen. now, don't go getting any ideas. i'm not promising anything. but, TWO posts in ONE week? i really feel on fire. there are flames at the computer chair. no lie. so, becky tagged me in a cute little photo-dare and being the twelve-year-old i think I am, i HAD to do it!
so CUTE!!! haha! my name written in cursive in YARN! I thought it was going to be hard, but it was easy-peasy. Can you guys see Harleykins (kitty paws in the left top corner)? He got super happy about yarn coming out and decided to get all nosey on me. He told me that yarn lights up his life.
wicked side view of the yarn name creation

and the GRANNY SQUARE SWAP finally got here! Everyone did such an amazing job! I will admit I have some favorites. :) but, thats normal right? I really didn't want to open some of these because they were packaged so pretty! I still don't really know what to do with them. I'd like to frame them and stick them together sort of like a gallery view. Making a blankie out of them would be neat too. I really had fun doing this swap... and getting the package that day in the mail was just like christmas when i was a kid! I was so giddy and snatched it out of the hubby's hands and ripped it open!
well, other than reading.. (i finshed wintergirls last night. AMAZING book. Totally moving and captivating. A little dark, and scary, but real. Very real things. becky, i would say read it. it's going to rattle your brain cage, thats for sure. and i've already started another book 'evermore'. Can I just say that the name Ever is really pretty! It's another fantasy teenager book, pish i don't care that i'm in my twenties and still ready YA novels. ok this has gotten out of hand! END))
... i've been doing some graphic design again. It's been a LONG time since I've used Adobe 7.0 and it's so out dated now it's insane, but I've had some cool things come out of it. For some odd reason the colors aren't showing right when I changed the file to jpeg, but these are some t-shirt designs I've made for our church youth group.
upprmymtshirt
^this is the design they like! grafiti font, paint splatters, wings... i don't blame them. it's awesome. they picked out yellow as the tshirt color. it's going to be bright and AWESOME.
cmyk shirt2

(again.. colors aren't right.) this is another one I made. I LOVE this one. They told me it looked like it was from the EIGHTIES. I thought that was in right now? Am I wrong? But, it doesn't look like the eighties to me. i think it would have been a cool deisgn on a white shirt.
I've still got to make the back logo for the shirt. It's going to be this HUGE paint glob with the verse Colossians 2:2-4 which says "I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have minds confident, and at rest focused on Christ, God's great mystery. All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and no where else. And we've been shown the mystery! I'm telling you this because I don't want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so called mysteries, or the "secrect." '
Robin shared a really cool message the other night centered around that verse that simply and plainly laid out what being a christian means, and what a tapestry of love is.
I can't wait to get finished with the shirts and get them made. I am so excited about it... and it's cool to think I will be wearing my own design!
well, I hope everyone has a LOVELY weekend. :)

Flattered With Jane Austen

I watched this movie last night and fell in love.
Not because of mr. mcavoy. (swoon)
Or miss hathaway. (love her so much!)
Both equally worthy of admiration.
But because I've never really understood
an Austen plot until now. (shocking I know.)

(I promise I'm not illiterate!)

With this new understanding I am challenging myself.
I want to read Pride and Prejudice and understand it.
I've never read an Austen novel,
even if I was supposed to read one in Highschool
I didn't. (hehe whoops :D)
I've always shied away from the vocabulary she used.
But after seeing this movie that was loosely based
off of Jane's life I just need more.

I've seen the movie Pride and Prejudice
and it made little sense to me as well,
but it was on t.v. so there were some
parts missing I'm sure.
But I want some unfiltered and pure Jane Austen to
feast on.
So, with a dictionary in hand I will embark on the Jane Austen road.
Its a well beaten path I'm sure and I will be a small bump
on the way, but I'm taking this journey because I want to.
Not because some literary list says I should.
So, I guess you can wish me luck!
And I'll keep you updated on my progress!

Tell me, have you read Jane Austen's work?
What was your favorite and why?

Have a lovely night!
xoxo
